There will be a meeting of the Rollinsford SAU 56 Withdrawal Committee on
Thursday, June 20th, 2019 at 5:30PM at the Rollinsford Grade School Gymnasium.
The warrant article to study the feasibility of Rollinsford’s withdrawal from SAU56 passed, and the School Board is now in the process of forming a Planning Committee to do just that.
In accordance with RSA 194-C:2, the committee will be comprised of two School Board members, a member of the Budget Committee, four community members, and the superintendent. If the committee recommends withdrawal (or reorganization of the existing SAU), it will prepare a plan that complies with the requirements in section 8 of RSA 194-C:2.
With that in mind, we are now seeking four community members to participate in the committee!
If you are interested in joining the committee as a community member, please email [email protected] by April 10, 2019.
The first meeting of the committee is scheduled for May 2, 2019, time to be determined.
Thank you!

The Town of Rollinsford has voted to institute the Official Ballot Referenda, or “SB 2”. This is a new form of town meeting, consisting of two sessions – the deliberative session and the vote. Your attendance at all of the meetings is important.
But wait! Before we vote, this Saturday, January 12that 9:00am at the Grade School will be the Budget Committee’s public hearing on the Town and Water and Sewer District budgets. The Budget Committee will hear public comment then meet immediately following the public hearing to decide whether or not to modify the budget based on what they heard at the public hearing.
The first session of Town Meeting (yes, it is still called that, it’s just a different form now) is the deliberative session and is scheduled for 9:00 am on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at the Grade School. This is the closest equivalent to the town meeting you are used to. This will be the only time you can voice your opinion and offer amendments to the proposed operating budget and warrant articles presented. Any warrant article language or dollar amount may be modified by the registered voters present.
At the second session (the vote), the polls will be open from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm Tuesday, March 12, 2019 for the ballot vote on the budget and warrant articles as amended at the first session. This is a vote only – discussion and amendments cannot occur. Should the proposed operating budget fail, and a special meeting is not called to reconsider this, a “default budget” is automatically adopted. The “default budget” is the same as the prior year’s budget with certain adjustments per state statute. The law does not allow reconsideration of votes cast on warrant articles other than the operating budget.
Date correction (from initial publication in the newsletter mailed with tax bills):

The Rollinsford School Board has selected Richard Hartford of Northwood, NH to become the new principal of Rollinsford Grade School. Mr. Hartford will take over from Kate Lucas who is leaving after seven years to become the principal at Stratham Memorial School in Stratham, NH.
Mr. Hartford’s educational career spans nearly 25 years as a teacher and administrator. He started his career as a physical education teacher and became an administrator in 2002, starting his career as an assistant principal. He became the principal at Northwood Elementary School in 2009 where he worked for five years. In 2016, Rich decided to return to his roots in the classroom and is currently working as the K-5 physical education teacher at Idlehurst Elementary School in Somersworth.
Judy Nelson, Rollinsford School Board chair states, “Rich was the top candidate presented to the Board for this position and we believe is a good match for Rollinsford Grade School.” Lori Lane, Interim Superintendent of Schools for SAU 56 added, “Mr. Hartford will be taking over a school that is heavily invested in inquiry-based learning, a student-centered approach to learning. He was the unanimous choice of the principal search committee which included staff, parents and school board members, to bring to the school board as their finalist.”
Mr. Hartford will start his tenure as the new principal of Rollinsford Grade School on July 1st.
The town is in the process of compiling documents for the town’s annual report and annual town meeting and has created an online site for you to review documents as they become available.
